The Garden of Blessings

Long ago, when the world was still young, a woman named Lina lived in a small stone cottage at the edge of a bustling village where people hurried from one task to the next and rarely paused long enough to notice the changing seasons. As a child, Lina had known the language of wonder. She had spent summer afternoons chasing butterflies through meadows of daisies and clover. She knew where the first violets appeared each spring, greeted old trees as friends, tucked wildflowers into her pockets, and carried chestnuts home as treasures. Most of all, she believed that every living thing carried a story.

Years passed, as years often do, and her days became crowded with responsibilities. The seasons slipped by, and little by little, without noticing, Lina forgot how to listen with her heart.

One summer, after a season filled with worries she could not quite name, Lina awoke before dawn with a feeling of emptiness. Nothing was truly wrong, yet something seemed missing. Her cottage felt smaller than it once had, and the world seemed quieter. Lina wrapped a woolen shawl around her shoulders and set out walking through the silver mist resting over the fields and over the dew jeweled grass. She followed a narrow path winding between elder trees and hawthorn hedges.

Just as the first golden rays of sunlight touched the horizon, Lina saw a gate she had never seen before. It stood beneath an arch of climbing roses so thick with blossoms that scarcely a leaf could be seen. Cream-colored roses mingled with blush-pink roses. Bees drifted lazily among the blooms, and pearls of dew hung from the petals like crystal beads. Suspended from the archway by a faded green ribbon was a small wooden sign. Its weathered letters read: THE GARDEN OF BLESSINGS

Lina pushed open the gate and stepped into a garden unlike any she had ever seen. The paths shimmered with golden moss. Foxgloves rose like towers. Hollyhocks swayed above her head. Vines climbed ancient stone walls and disappeared into flowering arches. The air was alive with the hum of bees and the flutter of wings.

Soon, she came to a clearing where thousands of golden flowers danced in the sunlight. Their petals flashed like coins of sunlight. Tiny golden butterflies fluttered among them. Whenever the breeze touched the blossoms, they rang like the smallest silver bells. Before long, she was laughing so hard that tears rolled down her cheeks. The flowers swayed and chimed around her. For the first time in many months, she felt light. The heaviness she had been carrying loosened its grip. A single golden blossom detached itself and drifted into her hands. As it landed, a voice whispered through the clearing: "Remember Joy."

Lina tucked the flower into her pocket and continued on her way. The path curved through a grove of silver birch trees. Soon she heard water. There, hidden among blue and violet blossoms, lay a crystal pool. Blue flowers crowded its edges. Their petals shimmered with dew. Lina sat beside the pool. The silence wrapped around her like a blanket. One by one, worries she had carried for months surfaced within her thoughts. As she watched, each worry drifted across the pool's surface like a fallen leaf and slowly dissolved. The blue flowers nodded gently in the breeze.

A single blossom floated across the water toward her, whispering: "Open to Healing."

Lina placed the blue flower beside the golden one.

The path continued winding through a gate woven entirely of grapevines and led into an orchard unlike any she had ever imagined. Lina began to realize how much of her life she had spent fearing scarcity. Not enough time, money, energy, hope… Yet here, everything overflowed. A green flower emerged from the roots of an old apple tree and opened before her eyes. Its petals gleamed like emeralds, and it whispered: "Feel Abundance."

Lina tucked the green blossom beside the others.

The path led her beneath an arbor covered in climbing roses. Their fragrance hung in the air like a blessing. There she discovered a small bird with an injured wing. Without hesitation, Lina knelt and gently lifted it into her hands. As she held the little bird, something inside her shifted. A door she had not realized was closed slowly opened, and all the tenderness she had hidden beneath worry and responsibility began flowing once again.

The roses around her unfurled wider as the bird rested peacefully in her hands, and a rose blossom landed at her feet, softly singing: "Remember Love."

As she picked up the flower, the garden grew quiet, and a pathway of petals appeared before her. Following it, Lina returned to the heart of the garden.

There she found an old woman seated beside a stone well with silver hair flowing like moonlight and eyes sparkling with mischief. Around her feet bloomed every flower Lina had seen that day.

"You found them," said the old woman, "The Four Blessings."

Lina looked down at the flowers she carried. Joy. Healing. Abundance. Love.

The old woman continued, "Most people spend their lives searching for them."

"Are they hidden?" Lina asked.

"Oh no, child," the old woman smiled softly and reached down to touch a daisy growing beside the well, "They are everywhere."

"Then why do so many people lose them?"

"Because they stop paying attention."

For a moment, neither of them spoke while bees hummed among the flowers and the well reflected the evening sky. Then, the old woman gathered the four blossoms from Lina's hands and with her practiced fingers wove them together into a bouquet golden, blue, green, pink … joy, healing, abundance, love.

"Take these home."

"What will they do?" Lina asked.

"They will remind you."

"Of what?"

"That everyday beauty is full of magic and that blessings bloom wherever they are tended."

When Lina stepped back through the rose-covered gate, she found herself once more standing in the meadow. The garden was gone, but the bouquet remained in her hands.

She carried it home, and each morning thereafter, she changed its water, paused to admire its blossoms, remembered gratitude, remembered wonder, remembered how to listen with her heart.
