Winter Stitches

I am working on creating a tiny medicine pouch project and pattern that will be a gift to students at my upcoming class. Working around 13 stitches for the 13 moon cycles in a year and a day and figuring out a way to teach several skills within the one tiny project while leaving it flexible. It has been rather interesting and I can hardly wait to be ready to share some photos of its beginning stages. What are you working on?

What are your first magickal fiber projects as this year begins? One of the first projects here in my space is this pair of mittens. The hand-painted yarn was gifted to me by a dear friend, it waited for a very long time for just the right project to meet it. As it sat in my basket, it reminded me of the treasure my friend is in my life and when I came across the pattern String of Jewels Mitts by Triona Murphy on Ravelry, it was immediately clear that it is just the right match for the special skein of yarn I received as the conversations, connections, and times spent together with my friend have been so bright and love-filles as the most precious jewels on a string that is a thread weaving our friendship joys through life's paths gently and lovingly. I just love these mittens so much…

Hands understand thresholds long before the mind names them. While organizing my stitching supplies, I was revisited by a few of my old works in progress. They reminded me that they are there ... asked when I might be bringing them out of the box and into the light of day ... they reminded me of moments of uncertainty during which they were started and as I held them, not only did I remember the uncertainties I wrestled with at that time, but also of some of the threads that still need tending to. Finishing those projects, therefore, has been on my mind these days. The importance of completing them so that the current transformations can unfold free of untended threads from the past threshold experiences calls my attention loudly these days.

What about your works in progress?

Do you have a project you began during a time of uncertainty…

Thyme is one of my best friends in the plant kingdom. She somehow knows exactly what is needed in all ways when healing and transitions feel a little disorienting or intense. She offers medicine for the physical body that is direct, clear, and unmistakably strong. Her healing energy reaches the heart and the soul on the wings of her aromatic oils that wake one up without error. Her all encompassing embrace and her appearance are both trailing and connected to the ground, but do not mistake that for lack of strength, as her stalks are firm and hold uprightness within that grounded presence.

When you feel “in between” in your life, what simple ritual or plant ally helps you steady yourself? Is there a herb, tea, scent, or household practice that feels like sweeping the threshold for you, clearing old residue so the next step can be taken with intention?

Threshold experiences are on my mind today. Feeling of being in between chapters ... when I feel like that moment when you are reading a book that fully pulls you in and you pause between chapters ... partly because the story has been so impossibly marvelous and partly becuase you are not sure how you feel about moving forward and finding out what happens next ... that feeling when you are filled with hope and inspiration but part of you is still reveling in the experiences that brought you that far.

Stories know when we are standing between chapters. Do we know how to make the most of that pause?

When you think of a moment in your life that felt like a true threshold—not an ending, not a beginning, but the pause where both were present. If that moment could be told as a folk tale, who or what would…

Yuletide joys

This morning, I am finishing work as early as possible to create space for magical joys to expand into the afternoon and evening hours.

Today is the day when Koledo, the bright Sun Child, is welcomed as the sun is rebirthed and I love the joys that accompany this special event every turn around the sun.

  • a spread of 12 treats and a card oracle draw for the coming 12 months

  • adding enchanted ornaments to the evergreen holiday tree

  • preparing wool socks for everyone in the house with a coin, a sweet treat, and a nut for health, love, and wealth in the coming year

Today is extra special as we will set up our Winter Spiral for a quiet candle lit meditation walk through the soul reflections of this season.
