The hazelnut tree is one of the tree friends that is our ancient friend and guide. Quiet. Steady. Unassuming. Yet, strong, wise, and ready to teach and support us in our quests. Across old lands and stories older-than-old, the hazel appears at the threshold of knowing where questions transform into insight, where seekers become listeners, where something small shapeshifts quietly into something very powerful.

This April, a path opens again at Pathways Bookstore, and it begins, as many true paths do, with a story.

A tale carried through the roots of time

In the old fairy tale The Hazel Branch, the forest lives and breathes as a presence, trees observe, animals speak in their own language, and the path reveals itself in response to the one who walks it. The hazel offers something simple and profound: a gift that is one of its branches. Those who receive it arrive at a moment of readiness.

The forest as a teacher

There is a way of learning that rises from direct encounter when we sit long enough to hear the trees, quietly enough to notice which bird returns, which plant calls our attention, which symbol appears again and again like a quiet knock.

The making of the wand

The ancient craft of shaping wood with the hands is an important aspect of our relationship with the tree that was gifted to us by. During our class experience, we will carve and consecrate a hazel wand into a personal item and a connection to the magic and wisdom of the spirit of Hazelnut trees.

The process itself becomes the teaching as we feel the wood beneath in our hands, and as a quiet awareness emerges within us while our wand takes shape, and something within also comes into form... something that reveals to us clarity, focus, and steadiness of our inner voice... the wand slowly becomes a connection to the spirit of the Hazelnut tree and a companion shaped through attention and care ready to help us listen, discern, and divine the pessages calling our attention as we move forward on our quests.
